CLIENT PROJECTS
Stuart Linn, formerly group managing director of Southern Vectis, developed the company's consultancy arm, the main specialism being network design. The attached map details the main areas covered. The team has also provided bus network expertise to the large consultancy firm WSP Group in projects led by them in Essex and Gloucestershire.
Guernsey
In the late 1990s, the States of Guernsey (the Island's Government) decided that it wished to greatly enhance the operation and perception of the bus system. A new network was developed which fully integrated local bus and schools demand. Additional public funds were allocated to a brand new bus fleet and a very low fare policy.
Usage of the bus system has grown by over 60% since 2000 with subsidy levels at approximately £32 per head of population per annum - a relatively low figure for a regulated low fares system.
The 2006 statistics for bus passengers in Guernsey show a record year, with over 1.4M journeys made. This compares with just over 878,000 journeys made in 2000 – an increase of approximately 60%
Ceredigion
A number of Quality Network studies have been carried out for local authorities. That for Ceredigion covered the whole county and was introduced in stages between September 2004 and February 2005.Significant improvements in the network have been achieved and subsidy levels and per capita school transport costs being contained. (Prices have increased sharply in neighbouring authorities.) Usage on the main north-south route increased by 20% in the first 12 months.
